Project Brief

Beauty And The Brand

Within this unit i will develop the understanding of how makeup and hair design concepts for fashion and beauty are developed from the idea conception through realisation. The final outcome for this unit will be 2 advertising campaigns for my given beauty brand: Dior.  2 catwalk looks for the spring/summer range and 2 editorial images theme/story. Using my skills learnt from Level 4 i will be able to produce work to a professional standard for the beauty market. I will have many roles during this task, such as the makeup and hair designer, and editorial, advertising and fashion areas. At the end of the unit i am asked to create a catwalk outcome for my timed assessment.

Areas of Study:

  • The role of the photographer, stylist, fashion designer, make up and hair designer in relation to the rest of a creative team, and in commercial and creative contexts.
  • The development of an idea from initial concept to final execution; research techniques and sources.
  • Organizational aspects of working with a make-up and hair design team.
  • The relationship between lighting, post production, make-up and hair design and styling; how they complement or restrict one another.
  • Construction and editing of images for fashion and beauty industry
  • The presentation of ideas through verbal and visual media
  • Giving appropriate critical feedback.

During this term i am asked to have a wide understanding of my chosen brand. Including the 5 p's.
  • Product
  • Packaging
  • Presentation
  • Promotion
  • Price point

I will also be producing a sketch blog to show my visual and written research as well with any test shots and final images. My blog will show the understanding to the brand, any advertising campaigns,  catwalk shows and looks, key reading, primary research such as drawings, and documenting any images taken in class. Finally i will be writing a 500 word evaluation of my brand of how i solved any problems, how my research influenced me and how it was involved in my images.
